2013 Back-to-School Shopping Spree
The words “back to school” have important meaning to the kids starting the new school year; and those words can resonate even further when the words, “new back to school clothes” echoes through the child’s mind. That is just what the Active 20-30 Club of Reno did on Saturday, August 17, 2013.
At 7:30 am, volunteers and Kohl’s employees eagerly awaited the bus arrival of fifty students from Anderson and Rita Canon Elementary. Shopping bags in hand, each child was paired with a volunteer and shopped to their heart’s delight getting new shoes, new school uniforms and new hoodies for the colder weather to come. With about a $100 budget per kid, the shopping bags quickly filled up.
Excitedly, as volunteers and kids lined up to check out, the kids were even more elated to see they got to choose whatever color of new back pack with school supplies they wanted, followed by donuts and juice.
” ‘ Wow, how cool and that’s awesome’ ” were among the few words uttered by the kids as they compared schools supplies, what shoes they got and what color of hoodie each picked out. Thanks yous and smiles from the fifty kids radiated the room and left both volunteers and Kohl’s employees happy for the time spent that Saturday morning making a difference to a child staring the new school year.
